A radical and compassionate approach to understand and ease psychological distress
Services
I accept private referrals as well as those from Health Boards, and the criminal Justice system, providing psychological assessment, formulation and one to one short, medium as well as longer term more specialist therapeutic interventions for adults with more complex mental health presentations. I also provide cross professional clinical supervision, group reflective practice, design, develop and deliver bespoke trainings and themed workshops.
Why am I feeling like this?
Unlike physical health conditions, there is no current physical nor pathological diagnostic test which confirms the presence or absence of a mental health condition. A formal mental health diagnosis therefore necessarily relies on identifying the presence of somewhat arbitrary symptom clusters or descriptors believed to be indicative of a specific disorder of which there are upwards of three hundred to choose from! It is important therefore to think about what is behind these symptoms and together agree on a dynamic and personalised approach to address and ease the underlying distress. The approach is less focused on identifying what is wrong with you and together being open to and getting curious about what has happened to you in the context of current as well as often interrelated previous life experiences. The latter helps to tease out, untangle and understand what is driving, maintaining and how to alleviate distress in a person centred, personalised and dynamic therapeutic intervention.
Collaborative personalised psychological assessment
Any therapeutic process begins with and is informed by a thorough standardised but personalised psychological assessment.
Collaborative and agreed formulation
Untangle and understand what is driving, maintaining and how to alleviate your symptoms in a personalised and dynamic therapeutic intervention.
Multi modal compassionate inquiry
To be effective and realise sustainable change, therapy must be a collaborative and compassionate process.
The enlightenment training series
In what are especially challenging global times as a way of celebrating and understanding our common humanity the Enlightenment Training series offers one-day, one-off workshops across Ireland. Each of the work-shops are informed by eastern psychological principles, dharma teachings and ancient wisdom practice but are completely secular in that they do not require you to undertake any Buddhist rituals or practices. You are simply asked and tasked to open your heart and mind to clear and compassionate awareness.
Addictive behaviours and the art of letting go
This one-day workshop provides a radical and alternative way to think about and understand the nature of harmful addictive behaviours.
Enlightenment I don’t know what it means, chop that wood, carry water
The workshop draws on and integrates Eastern dharma teachings, principles and experiential mindful and compassionate practice.
The tail wagging the Oxherders tale… under development
This two-day workshop draws on ancient eastern teachings, wisdom and experiential practice, grounded in the four noble truths, a 2600-year-old pragmatic, diagnostic and psychological formulation to understand the nature, cause of and how to ease “un-satisfactoriness”.
